About

About Me

I grew up on a Minnesota farm, the 5th generation to live in the beautiful farmhouse that my immigrant great-great-grandfather built with his own hands. My husband Joe and I met in high school, and after I got a degree in Agri-Business, we married young and settled in our hometown. I spent 10 wonderful years working in the commercial egg industry before stepping away to focus on our little kids and pursuits at home. We have an awesome church family, and help out with the high school youth group. My hobbies include gardening, snowmobiling, genealogy and family history (duh), and I could pretend to say, “reading”, but I unfortunately haven’t had much time for that in recent years.

How I Fell in Love With My Heritage

When I was around twelve, I read the memoir that my great-grandma Clara recorded about her life. I was fascinated to discover that, as a girl, she had many of the same interests that I did. Her description of my grandfather as a child was laughably spot-on, even 60 years later. I learned so many things about my family that I otherwise never would have known. Though she died when I was very small, her story didn’t die with her, and I benefitted from it. That memoir inspired me to find more facts and details about my family, and as I grew older, I used it as a template to begin recording the stories of more loved ones to share with the rest of the family.

What We Do Here

Your heritage has been part of shaping who you are, whether you realize it or not. Some parts are beautiful, and some parts may be ugly, but there are things to take away from it all. My hope is to inspire you to dig in and embrace your heritage, and to give you the tools to make it part of your life, and share it with your family members and loved ones.

You may be drowning in your family’s memorabilia, and have no idea what to pitch and what to preserve. Maybe grandma is getting older, and you know that when she’s gone, you’ll wish you had asked her more things, but have no idea what those things are! Do you want your kids to know some things about what makes your family special? Perhaps you don’t have big things in mind, but just want to carry on some simple traditions, or keep a few heirlooms in your home that remind you of where you came from. Follow along with me as I navigate all of this with my own heritage, fitting it into the margins of normal, busy life. As I go, I’ll be equipping you with all the tools and lessons that I learn along the way!
